Choose your upgrade path
Choose gear upgrades around the problem your squad needs to solve. This guide compares GOD of War’s radar-first approach with role-based priorities for damage dealers and frontline defenders.

- My overall preference: Radar → Armor → Gun / Railgun → Chip. This is a defensive investment preference, not an official or universally optimal upgrade order.
- For back-row damage dealers, the slide’s alternative is Gun / Railgun → Chip → Armor → Radar. Consider this route when damage output is your main limitation.
- For frontline defenders, the slide’s alternative is Armor → Radar → Gun / Railgun → Chip. Here, “tank” means the defensive role, not automatically every Tank-type hero.
- Focus your main squad before spreading scarce upgrade resources across multiple squads. The slides recommend prioritizing gold/UR gear and planning in 10-level steps; check the actual next upgrade preview before committing.
- Finish a useful upgrade milestone, then reassess. Avoid treating “finish one piece” as a requirement to max every star or promotion before touching another slot.

Measure the upgrade that matters
Compare upgrades at the same resource budget. Record your current level, the next previewed stat change, upgrade materials required, and the battle result you want to improve. A simple planning measure is displayed stat gained ÷ materials spent, but different stats are not directly interchangeable. Compare repeated battles against similar opponents; a single win or total power change does not prove that one upgrade is best.
Recommendation versus verified mechanics
The four images are the creator’s supplied originals. Their upgrade orders and statements such as “most players agree” are editorial advice, not verified consensus or official developer guidance. No directly supporting official source was located for a universal gear priority, exact costs, slot bonuses, or 10-level breakpoint effects. Those numerical claims are therefore not certified here. Read the current in-game gear tooltip and upgrade preview for the exact item you own. The Chip pictured here is a hero gear slot; do not confuse it with the separate Data Chip system.
